When Gilberto joined TGT he was already what I would call a seasoned guitar player. Not making a living playing the guitar, he plays in a band, and it is more than “just” a hobby – it’s a passion. It was through our TGT “Creative Guitar” Workshop with Andy Timmons that we met. He admired Andy’s fluid, melodic style that was both earthy and rootsy, while showing a lot of sophistication as well. Before Deej ran across TGT, he had already made a vow to "play the guitar for 10,000 hours". He used learning resources from the internet and recruited Berklee faculty to teach him more about theory.

Total Guitar Transformation Q + A

Some of your lessons seem very advanced. I’m afraid that you are “out of my league” as a teacher and player. How do I know?

First of all – there is no such thing as “out of my league”. The more you surround yourself with better players, the faster you will grow. Wouldn’t it be horrible to have a teacher that is only marginally better than you?

The only reason we don’t take on beginners is that of limited time resources. It just takes too long to get started from zero – that’s why this is a ‘transformation” program. And I also want to be available for those that are emerging pros and already advanced players!

If your score on the Clarity guide is currently below 40 then I’d ask you to cancel your lesson appointment. If not – we welcome you to start growing as a part of TGT!

I am an advanced player. Is this Academy for me? 

Absolutely. Total Guitar Transformation is for electric guitar players on all levels except absolute beginners. I personally use many of the techniques and exercises offered in the program in my daily practice schedule. The modules and lessons are stacked in degree of complexity and go all the way to playing over changes with inside and outside concepts, definitely going beyond the Hendrix idiom into modern rock guitar territory. The Hendrix transcription have an attention to detail that will satisfy even expert level players, there is something to learn for everyone. Plus almost all of the exercises and concepts can be adjusted in level of difficulty and conceptual understanding. 

I am a total beginner. Do you recommend this program for me? 

If you have never played guitar before then this is not the right program for you. Our Academy is transformational in nature, so there needs to be some prior experience if that makes sense. The best results are achieved from students with 2 years of consistent playing experience and up. Expect at least to know some basic string bending, pentatonic positions and chords. The materials and lessons do cover all the foundations from the start, but a true beginner would just take too long to get up to speed to learn those Hendrix songs.

How long will it take me to complete and graduate from TGT Academy?

First off, you will be able to study on this knowledge for a lifetime. The way our Academy is set up is that it "teaches you to fish" instead of merely "feeding you the fish". That being said - we estimate that it will take you anywhere between 6 months and 2 years to “graduate” from TGT Academy and successfully complete all training lessons. Once you pass the end exam and reach “alumni status”, you’ll be fully benefitting from the many other resources, including repertoire bonuses and transcriptions, music production training, songwriting/arrangement and even career development. You are always welcome to go back/refine your skills, and the program will be constantly growing and expanding. Ulrich uses the very same exercises that are being taught on a daily basis himself – no matter if he's in the studio or on tour!

No. If you do that’s great, but everything will be explained from the beginning. You will find out that most of the teachings are very practical and related to Hendrix tunes – so you’ll hardly ever have a “theory brain freeze”.

What happens after the 12-month period, and I haven’t completed the program yet? Will I still receive mentoring?

Our TGT students have lifetime access to the materials. Many students use the exercises for years to come. After you finish studying the course material, you are expected to study on your own. In 12 months of homework review and weekly lessons, a LOT is going to happen to your playing. After the 12 months are over, you will be placed into our "TGT Alumni group". If you decide you want to expand the weekly lessons and mentoring for a second year, then you will be able to do that as well. 

So how much does it cost?

This is a top-level guitar coaching program - that's why joining the Academy is invite-only. Once we get to know where you are at and how exactly we can help you, we will make you an offer to join (we cannot guarantee that this will happen). Only then will we talk about tuition cost. To give you an idea - be prepared for a mid 4-figure investment into your guitar passion. Payment plans and financing are available.

My time for guitar is limited, I need a maximum of flexibility. What’s the time structure of TGT like?

Opposed to private lessons with a teacher, the TGT program offers maximum flexibility: you show up for a lesson whenever you are ready. The 60+ video lesson content and PDFS are yours to work on whenever it fits your schedule. The real-time mentoring currently takes place in two lesson slots on Tuesday (2PM EST and 7PM EST), but there are also several options of non-real time feedback: private group chat, video feedback and weekly email check-ins.

Just as an example – we currently have one student from Australia that has difficulties making the calls because of the time zone. We are in touch via video feedback and email, and it has worked out great so far! All the group calls are recorded and available via the membership area/private group.

For the optimum results it is recommended that you spend at least 30 min of practice every day, plus about 10 min watching learning content. The weekly live TGT lesson is optional, you only come if you need help and inspiration.

Absolutely. You can start the program whenever it fits your schedule and work on your own pace. We do however highly recommend consistent practice for real results, and attend the weekly calls.

To the second part – the TGT program has limited seats. Because of the personal mentoring, only a limited number of students can be accepted into the program. It is foreseeable that, as demand is rising, it will be harder to get in, plus the price will most certainly rise as well. In short – there will never be a better time to join than right now.

I’m already a huge Hendrix fan and can play the majority of the songs in the program. Is it worth it for me?

If you already know the songs then this is a big plus. That means you can start at the more advanced level and focus on the advanced content. One thing you will learn: there is no musical exercise that cannot be indefinitely be adjusted in degree of difficulty. Outside improvisation over “Power Of Soul”? Little Wing modulating through all 12 keys?

In addition, even though this program is structured around Hendrix tunes, there are tons of other songs to study as well, ranging from other 70's rock icons, blues legends, up to modern-day instrumentalists like Satriani and cohorts. TGT Academy has something for everybody!

I’m 66 years old. Is there an age limit?

It doesn’t matter how old you are but how passionate you are! If you are ready to prove to the world that you aren’t an old fart yet and ready to grow, then you are right at home here! The same goes for youngsters – although we don’t recommend our program for kids below 14 years of age.

This is a very individual topic and cannot be answered broadly. That's what our zoom call is for. It depends on where you started when you joined, on your weekly practice time, your dedication level, how well you follow the coaching, attendance of weekly lessons, etc. We will not make you any unfounded promises - you'll get what you put in! Let’s just say this – if you show up regularly and put in some elbow grease, you will be growing faster and more profoundly than ever before since picking up the guitar!

I’m a pro player, I pretty much got all my bases covered. In which ways can TGT help me to become more successful as a player?

The structure of TGT will allow for you to quickly scan your skill level and improve on any areas where you might not be on your fullest potential. Beyond skills, much of the training you will receive happens on a musical/artistic level. There is no other mentoring program like it out there. Once you have identified your guitar voice, you can receive training in the areas of production and/or marketing, if that's required to reach your goal. There is a career section that focuses specifically on that. Examples are: earning income on Fiverr, doing custom tracks for clients, music licensing, touring strategies, etc… Or it might be theory and songwriting! No matter what you goal is – Ulrich’s resources and expertise will help you to reach your goal(s) much quicker.

I’m a hobby player looking to be good enough to “hang with the pros”. Will this be the right program for me?

Yes, absolutely. TGT is designed to equip guys like you with pro level guitar skills and knowledge in a very non-academic way. In fact, some of our students have been invited by Ulrich to sit in at one of his shows before!

How much am I expected to practice?

This depends a lot on your situation and goals. One thing should be clear: don’t expect miracles - you’ll get out of this program what you put in. For quick accelerated progress you should be willing to invest at least 30-40 minutes a day towards the TGT studies. Once you start, you’ll be amazed how time can fly by.

I’m afraid and ashamed of posting my videos, and I’m also not comfortable of doing group lessons. Is there another way?

Don’t worry, you are not alone with these feelings. It takes some bravery and trust to share your weaknesses. However, this is exactly part of a successful learning process. You should get super comfortable with sharing your progress. Also, you will find out – TGT is by no standards a “normal” guitar group. Our group climate is extremely positive (you will experience it from day one), extremely supportive and absolutely “zero-negativity”! It’s a safe haven for learning. This learning environment will be extremely beneficial to you and chances are that you will start to get addicted to sharing your achievements with the TGT community!

I’m afraid of having to make a larger investment. Is there a way to join on a monthly basis?

Many of our students that had a big hurdle to “invest” themselves are now the ones that make the fastest progress. Why? Because to them the investment wasn’t done lightly and they wanted to make sure they get their “money’s worth” – now they are getting the value tenfold.

Fact is - you can not have success in life with anything if you don't have skin in the game. Monthly subscription models don't offer that. At TGT, you get a success guarantee unlike any other music school or college music program. We do that to ensure that we both have skin in the game, for the best possible guitar results.

This program doesn’t work on “time-based” value, instead it is result-based. Ask yourself – after having tried so many methods to get better – can you at this point in your life really afford to not to make the fastest, most profound guitar progress possible?

Do you offer financing?

There is hardly ever the perfect time to get started with something. That’s why 95% of people never get started!
