ODE TO LIVE MUSIC
Live music brings your soul to life,
A symphony of sounds, cutting through the strife.
In a crowded room, you find your place,
As melodies dance and emotions embrace.
The beat thumps deep, resonating within,
Igniting a fire, where passions begin.
Notes collide, harmonies entwine,
Creating a tapestry, both yours and mine.
In the midst of chaos, you find release,
As the music uplifts, granting inner peace.
It whispers secrets, only the heart can hear,
A language of emotions, crystal clear.
Live music, a potion for the soul,
A remedy to heal and make us whole.
It unites us all, in this transient space,
Where every note becomes an embrace.
So let the music play, let it set you free,
In its rhythm and melodies, you will see,
That live music has the power to ignite,
And bring your soul to life, in the darkest night.

BLUES NIGHTS
Named ‘Denver’s Best Blues Club’ by Westword in 2023, Dazzle features Blues Nights throughout 2024. 2023's artists included The Kent Burnside Blues Band, Claudette King, CW Ayon, local favorite Jack Hadley, and Nic Clark's Harmonica Workshop at the Saturday Kids' Matinee.
Like so many musicians in Denver, Taylor drew inspiration from time spent at the Denver Folklore Center founded by Harry Tuft, where he first heard Piedmont, Delta, country, and Chicago blues artists like Son House, Muddy Waters, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. He learned to play guitar and harmonica and while still in his teens he formed a band called the Butterscotch Fire Department and later the Otis Taylor Blues Band.
Otis Taylor grew up in Denver, but like the old blues song said, he was born in Chicago in 1948. According to Taylor his parents were both jazz fans. My dad worked for the railroad and knew a lot of jazz people. He was a socialist and real bebopper. His mother loved everything from Etta James to Pat Boone. The first instrument Taylor learned to play was the banjo, but he soon rejected the banjo for its association with the racist American South. Taylor would eventually return to the banjo upon discovering its African roots.
