Electricity and the Human Body

A person posing for the camera

Description automatically generated

Even with the tremendous advances in biological science, we still have much to understand about life and the human body. In the last decade alone, much has been achieved in being able to move forward in delivering… wherever possible… technology that assists in providing drug-free alternatives to the long-term use of painkiller medication. Pain management through cell regeneration has been a topic of interest for many years, and the introduction of a relatively new device, the Oska Pulse, has become an exciting alternative to the long-term use of pain killer medication, so detrimental to health and well-being.

Much has been written about electricity and the human body, but Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) technology is now of interest to pain specialists, particularly when recommended by patients.

Back in 1780, Luigi Galvani discovered that by applying electric charges to the leg of a dead frog, the leg would move, leading him to believe that electricity existed in animals. So, he surmised there must be internal chemistry that generates electricity. We now know that everything we do is controlled and enabled by complex electrical signals running through our bodies.

Without question, the human-animal is a very complex electrical system!

Electromagnetic Therapy

Description automatically generated

For many years, scientists worldwide have experimented with electromagnetic fields to mimic the body's natural electrical energy, providing a non-invasive means to address inflammation and accelerate the body's natural healing.

The Oska Pulse is a leader in its field of natural pain relief and rehabilitation. The Oska Pulse is a portable device that is comfortable to use, conveniently compact, and oval-shaped, making it ideal for daily tasks.

Bio-electromagnetic therapies, including Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT), are now a viable alternative to pharmaceutical medication. Until the last few years, PEMF devices were large, expensive, and complicated machines that required the user's attachment.

Our bodies rely on controlled messages sent to various parts of our bodies, enabling us to move, sense pleasure and pain, and store information in our brains. These messages are sent not through wires but through electrical charges (called synapses) that jump from one cell to another until they reach their destination. The cell membrane allows the flow of electrical signals through thousands of channels in our bodies. Cell growth and replication itself is controlled by electrochemical activity, much of which is generated by physical activity.

The Science & Application of Oska Pulse:

Unlike standard pain relief devices that block pain signals, Oska Pulse utilises Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) technology to mimic the body’s natural recovery processes.

Our bodies are inherently 'electrochemical machines' and use electrical energy to build and maintain our cells, tissues, organs, and bones. A healthy cellular metabolism is crucial for cell renewal and regeneration. However, injury or degenerative issues that compromise the electrical potentials, adversely affect cellular metabolism.

1. The Biological Deep Dive: "How The Oska Pulse Works".

The Oska Pulse is a portable, FDA/CE/TGA-registered wearable medical device, designed in Australia by Medic Technology International Pty Ltd and manufactured in the USA. Unlike TENS machines, Oska Pulse uses Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy to address pain at its source. Oska is not designed to block pain; pain tells you there is a problem that needs to be dealt with, so the Oska Pulse  works at a cellular level to regulate inflammation, improve blood circulation, and accelerate the body's natural healing processes. It is a drug-free, non-invasive solution for chronic and acute pain conditions like arthritis, sports injuries, and post-operative recovery.

What is the Oska Pulse?

Oska Pulse 101

Controlled by an internal software program, the device emits a specially configured pulsed electromagnetic field that restores the cell membrane's permeability, reopening these ion channels, normalising chemical exchange. Similar to fertilising a garden, Oska Pulse provides an environment that accelerates cellular regeneration.

Oska Pulse Action:

  •  Injury or illness disrupts this electrical charge, not only impairing ion exchange but also affecting the lymph system in dealing with cellular waste.
  • In healthy cells, this membrane maintains an electrical balance, allowing the exchange of essential ions such as sodium, potassium, and calcium.
  • Every cell in our body is surrounded by a membrane "shell" that regulates what enters and exits. Each cell is enclosed by this delicate plasma membrane that separates its internal contents from the external environment. The cell membrane acts as a selective barrier that keeps the cell's structure intact. Just as the human body relies on specialised organs and tissues to function properly, cells contain distinct components, called "organelles", each responsible for a specific function essential to cellular survival.

    The Mitochondrial Powerhouse

  • By mimicking the body’s own electrical energy, Oska’s PEMF helps the body restore the electrical potentials needed for optimal ion exchange, speeding the natural healing process. Read more - The Science of Cellular Healing.
  • Simultaneously, it stimulates the lymphatic system to flush out cellular debris and toxins, effectively reducing the swelling and inflammation that cause pain.
  • This increases blood flow, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the injured area under treatment.
  • The Oska Pulse stimulates the capillary arcade (the network of micro-blood vessels), causing vasodilation (widening of blood vessels).
  • The electromagnetic pulses also stimulate the mitochondria, often called the "powerhouse" of the cell.
  • Why this matters: ATP is the "energy currency" of the cell. Higher ATP levels allow cells to repair themselves, divide, and regenerate faster. For more education on this subject, please click on the link above.
  • This stimulation boosts the production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP).
  • New project

Delivered to the area being treated, the Sequential Treatment Program (STP) used by Oska Pulse contains four programs recognised for their efficacy, which occur naturally in load-bearing tissue. See more on this:

The Oska Pulse  can be used alongside traditional medication, and to date, there are no listed negative side effects from using PEMF treatment.

The Oska PEMF device is designed to speed recovery from injury and degenerative conditions (such as osteoarthritis). The treatment protocols used encourage cellular regeneration; thus, not only speeding recovery but also reducing pain associated with an injury or degenerative condition.

Oska Pulse - Sequential Treatment Programming

Most devices use a single frequency to achieve a specific cell repair but vary the output, energy level, and duration of use. We’ve taken a different approach with the Oska by using four frequencies known for specific purposes but incorporating them into a single treatment protocol.

    What Makes Oska Pulse Unique?

    New project

NASA Concluded that PEMF is Effective

Oska Pulse, therefore, provides a safe, portable, affordable, non-invasive, drug-free solution for muscle and soft tissue recovery. It has been designed to speed recovery after injury and post-surgery, and deal with common degenerative conditions by stimulating the body's natural repair and regenerative processes, thus promoting pain relief.

In 2009, NASA was awarded a patent that utilised PEMF for the purpose of finding methods to reduce bone loss experienced by astronauts when subject to weightlessness in outer space. NASA poured US$3.5 million into magnetic therapy studies over four years, using human volunteers to define the most effective electromagnetic fields for enhancing growth and repair in mammalian tissues. NASA concluded that PEMF is effective in treating a range of musculoskeletal disorders, repairing traumatised tissues and age-related degenerative issues such as osteoarthritis.
