This e-book was written by my father, one of our creative partners
as to why you should consider becoming a virtual tax entrepreneur.
He has worked with a rather large tax firm helping them with their
marketing to
grow their business. I thought I should share it with you.
I'm not going to kid you and say that my life long dream was to become a tax preparer. And I'm still not one. The very thought of it didn't make me jump up and dance. Just the word taxes leaves people looking to get away from that word as fast as they can and many dread the tax period that starts in January and ends around the end of April.
Well nothing except several years ago I got a tax client who wanted me to build
a website for their business and handle some of their other marketing needs.
This client was local but then I learned that they were part of a larger
company similar
to H&R Block so I decided to get in touch with them about building websites
for all of their affiliates since many didn't have any. When I spoke to
some of the founders of this tax company I found that they had built
a successful business by helping others. But what got me was they became
that working a few months out of the year,
Now I'm no dummy! I understand business and I did pretty good in math. I see the people
working at H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax and I don't see them making any
serious money. But I realized that it's
not their business so they get paid very little.
The bulk goes to H&R Block and the franchisees. Oh I got it.
So I asked my website client who was the tax preparer as to what they
make on average preparing a tax return and how long does it take. He stated he
charge between $200 to $350 per return and they take on average about
an hour
to complete. So I said if you did 200 tax returns using the lower number you
would have earned about $40,000 for 200 hours of work
which would equal 5 weeks given a 40 hour work week.
So work with me here. You see there are times that we're not quite sure
what we want to do. We start off life seeking success and there's nothing wrong
with that. Pursuing our dreams is what we are told early in life to do.
That
usually means deciding what we want to pursue, go to school and after that
get a job or career. But life says we should have a life not
just a job or career.
But you would have to admit that it would be pretty cool if you could!
But what does this have to do with becoming a virtual tax preparer?
Just bear with me for a moment.
I'm going to make this quick but if he were to tell you his story,
it could take weeks. He is a software engineer who has worked for
General Electric and who is also a college professor. On a motor scooter he
has traveled
through 48 states seeing areas of the country in its natural
state that many of us can only dream of.
I'm not suggesting that you visit 48 states on a scooter or
chase a tornado but he chose several careers that allowed him
to pursue his true passion, adventure.
Sorry for the diversion but I was trying to make a short point on the
benefits of having that free time. Why shouldn't we pursue something
other than a job, work, career or standard entrepreneurship?
When you think of careers such as doctors, lawyers, vice president
or a business owner you wish that you could be one of them.
They make good money and I'm sure their work brings
about lots of satisfaction. But this usually
occurs in the early
stages of their work. As time moves on they get less satisfaction
out of their work. It's not their fault. The reason is
"The point of diminishing returns"
So I guess you are ready for me to get back to the point. I've jumped around
a bit and I think I'm ADHD. You see it seems to be difficult for me to
stay focused for a long period of time. You see while working on this

What Are You Doing Now And What Is It Doing For You?
Working a job, career or running a business.
There's nothing wrong with any of these. The most common answer
is probably, I enjoy what I'm doing. And that's great but
where is it leading to?
You see it's not enough to like what
you're doing but I think it has to lead to something
other than the satisfaction you get from the work,
promotion, bigger office and two more weeks of vacation
especially if
you don't own the work.
Don't you think so?
I can't answer that for you.I don't know!
Most of us don't know! We have been in a system
so long that seeing anything outside of that
is difficult. But I think we can find the answer in a two year old
Why a two year old? I did a lot of thinking and I tried
to go back in time to find a point that we seemed
the happiest. Now I want you to imagine that
you're two! You've been in the house all day. Your
parents
give you a choice. Take a nap, eat some oatmeal
or go outside and run. You'll choose to go outside
and run. Why Freedom!
Freedom is what we all want at times more than anything.
I don't know if being a tax entrepreneur is something
that you want to become but if you want time, 6 months
to choose what type of freedom you want and
what you will
do with it then, just consider
becoming one.
